  LIBRARY MANAGEMENT

RFID tag-enabled books make the perfect library management solution. While libraries require a whole range of capabilities from RFID technology, the basic features such as locating and identifying books, magazines and documents are the most critical components. RFID technology allows self-checkout, prevents potential thefts and helps locate books that are lost within the library.

In the case of documents, keeping track of the sheer volume of legal, medical or government documents can be an overwhelming task for attorneys, executive assistants and document librarians. Vital documents can easily be misplaced, lost or misfiled. With RFID, missing documents become a thing of the past.

RFID technology is simple, robust and inexpensive. Each RFID label has a unique identification number and can be programmed with additional information such as type of media and storage location. There are tags that are ‘re-writable’ so libraries don't have to replace a book’s digital identification tag when updating a book's status or flagging a book for reservation.

Libraries can significantly reduce theft of assets by using RFID tags and a combination of Creasma’s high power RFID module and handheld reader. The handheld reader is used at the librarian’s desk to check in/out the books, and in turn it updates the central database over the Wi-Fi network. An array of Creasma’s high power RFID reader modules is placed at the library’s exit/ entry points, which scans books and magazines taken through the gates, immediately cross checking against the database. Books that read ‘checked out’ in the database are allowed to pass, whereas books that are still ‘checked in’ will sound an alarm.
